Hiking

It was a beautiful day and I had the afternoon all to myself so I headed up to our new house and decided to go exploring. I did my best to follow the creek downstream, but it was slow growing. Unfortunately, what used to be fields have become overgrown with brush, must of which is thorny. Machete in hand, I hacked my way along a few game trails until I finally crossed over the stream and hiked about halfway up the mountain. At the point, I turned back towards the house and fought my way back to and around the far side of the pond before walking up the hill back to the house.

All told, I hiked for just shy of an hour and covered a little less than a mile.

Home Demolition

Sunday afternoon and we were back at it for another 4 hours. Today we removed the old whirlpool tub from the main bath, and sledgehammered/saws-all'ed the concrete shower pan out of the main bathroom. After that we removed the flooring from the master bath and finished tearing out all the sheet-rock and tiles in the master and main bathrooms. And, like good little boys, we spent a fair amount of time cleaning up after ourselves when all was said and done.

Home Demolition

My father-in-law and I spent 6 hours at the house doing more demolition. Today involved removing all the wood paneling from the living room and pulling down the faux wood beams from the living room ceiling. We also yanked the toilet from the downstairs bathroom, removed the laminate flooring from the lower level, pulled up the flooring in the main bathroom, removed the soffit and tiles around the tub, and generally cleaned up all the debris lying around.

Here's a recap of what the home looks like up to now: recap video.
